From security challenges to natural hazards, Benue State located at the north-central appears to be having a tough year.
Makurdi which is the capital of Benue State has joined Lagosians and the residents of Suleja in Niger State in the unprecedented act of swimming for survival. There was heavy flood in some parts of Markurdi due to the heavy downpour recorded this morning, 13th of July, 2017. This led to most of the smaller water channels to overflow their boundaries thereby causing massive flooding of many areas.
The pictures highlight the severity of the situation in the Wadata axis of the state capital, and hence the reason why the government needs to act fast before the next heavy downpour because it is definitely happening again soon.
The flooded area as seen here is a footpath with a poorly built drainage system and when the water came, it washed away the entire area.
Pricey properties belonging to locals have been reportedly destroyed but unlike Niger State, no life was lost.
