NA: OPERATION PYTHON DANCE IN SOUTH EAST

Men of the Nigerian Army
Does the military really think its relaunch of ‘Operation Python Dance’ in the South East, with the claim that it is meant to fight kidnapping and other criminal activities, is believable? If it does, it means that the leadership of that institution takes Nigerians for fools, especially at a time when kidnapping, armed robbery and sundry crimes abound in other parts of the country without any major deployment of soldiers. Yes, kidnappings and armed robbery are rampant on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria expressway flank, for instance, to the extent that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had to remove all police DPOs, Commissioners of Police and Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) in the area, yet soldiers have not been massively deployed. There are also kidnappings and crimes in other parts of Nigeria, but the military has not been unleashed soldiers on residents and people of the affected areas. Therefore, there is more to singling out the South East for such show of military strength and might.

Indeed, it is pertinent to ask these questions: Why is it that a legion of soldiers and military hardware have been deployed to the five states of the South East when there is no war or insurrection in the place? Why is it that Abia and other South East states are swarming with armed soldiers, who are brutally dealing with people, against global military rule of engagement, relating to civilians?  Why has the military chosen to raise unnecessary tension in the South East and further worsen security situation?  For the avoidance of doubt, the hitherto peace enjoyed in the South East geopolitical zone, despite the wrong picture the authorities were painting, has been deflowered with the military deployment. Now, Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, is under curfew, from as early as 6pm, with residents afraid to even step out for their legitimate businesses during the day. And people are being victimised, tortured and maimed because of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Reports and video clips on the military operation in the South East show the most inhuman treatment of innocent people by this invading army. The soldiers are executing orders in the most callous way, flogging their victims like animals, making them to lie down in ponds for hours and liquidating some of them in the process.  I have really wondered what message the government thinks it is sending out to the Igbo and the world.  At a time south easterners need protection, they are getting horrendous treatment in their own land. Coming just a few months after a coalition of Arewa youths issued a quit notice to Igbo living in the North and no action was taken against them, the ongoing military operation further shows the treatment of Nigerians on unequal measures. If Arewa youths issued a quit order to Igbo to vacate the North, and there was no military deployment in the areas wherein the Igbo were under threat, and the military turns around to deploy troops to South East, it says much about how the Federal Government perceives people from the South East.  To say the least, if there is anywhere the military and the government are supposed to deploy soldiers, it is in the North, where the Igbo and other non-indigenes are living in fear, following an earlier quit order.

Granted that the Arewa youths have suspended the quit notice, the government knows that there is need for security guarantee in the North, especially as the October 1 earlier deadline approaches. For one, Arewa youths outlined conditions on which they suspended the quit order. Therefore, there is still the feeling that Igbo are not safe in the North. And the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari, in his ‘return home’ broadcast, did not condemn, outright, that quit order, but only said all Nigerians were entitled to live and do business in any part of the country leaves much to imagination. Of course, condemning the quit order and saying that Nigerians were entitled to live and do business in any part of the country are not the same thing. Whereas the former is an assurance that the government, which President Buhari leads, is against the quit order, the latter is stating the obvious, as the constitution gives Nigerians the liberty to live and do business anywhere in the country, within the ambit of the law.

At present, tension has been heightened by the indiscretion of deploying troops to the South East. Just as it did not achieve anything tangible in 2016 other than making the agitation for Biafra to resonate, when Nnamdi Kanu was under incarceration, the chances of the government achieving anything currently is low. Using force to suppress people who feel shortchanged in a country they think they have equal rights would not work. Rather, it will increase the agitation and a feeling of alienation. By its actions, there is no doubt that the government has not learnt any lesson from the mistake of arresting Kanu, in the first place, over Biafra agitation. Whether the government believes it or not, the arrest of Kanu was one of the most fundamental errors it has made. This is because with the arrest and detention, Kanu was transmogrified from a simple director of Radio Biafra to the youths’ hero and his followers’ symbol of emancipation. And the worst mistake the government would make is to re-arrest him or to drive IPOB, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) and other agitating groups in the South East underground. This was the error made in the Niger Delta, which did cost Nigeria a lot, until the late President Umar Yar’Adua, in his wisdom, initiated the amnesty programme and quelled the agitation in the region.

The current government’s attitude would not produce good result. Those advising the government to toe that line may think that crackdown would stamp out agitation in the South East, but it is apparent that this would increase it. When the things that fuel Biafra are left unaddressed, there is no way the agitation or identification with it would go away. Just like government believed that arresting Arewa youths, who issued quit notice to Igbo would have further increased tension and insecurity, re-arresting Kanu, through military force or the revocation of his bail would cause the same. Such plot, if it is the goal of Operation Python Dance, will be a disaster. Therefore, the government should retrace its steps, withdraw the military from the South East and allow the dialogue the South East governors and Ohanaeze Ndigbo initiated to run its course. It does not make sense that just three weeks after South East governors, Ohanaeze organisation and some Igbo leaders met with Kanu and his group, with the plan of further meetings, the government ordered a military onslaught. Such an act shows that some unpatriotic elements in government do not really wish the country well and, therefore, taking actions to exacerbate problems.

For the IPOB and other pro-Biafra groups’ leadership, they should know that caution is not a mark of cowardice. They should know when to talk and how to say it, when to keep quiet and when to play the fool. Confronting military personnel, who are on a mission to kill, will only be counter-productive. Doing so will be tantamount to playing into the hands of those  looking for an opportunity to descend on the Igbo. And for other Nigerians who are watching and clapping for the military and government, as the Igbo are being dealt with, one message is this: Those who sit back and commend evil tendencies will, one day, discover that they would not be spared. Igbo are being dealt with today and others are not talking. This will embolden those carrying out this suppressive programme. Tomorrow, the oppressors of our people will take on others. And the undemocratic practices as well as dictatorship will subsist.

DRAMA AS ANGRY WIFE GRABS HUSBAND P*NIS FOR DENYING HER S*X DURING FASTING AND PRAYER

Venson Masuku and his wife Langelihle Moyo
A Zimbabwean woman from Matsheumhlope suburb in Bulawayo ran berserk and viciously grabbed her husband’s testicles and yanked them hard as payback for refraining from s*x during a fast.

According to B-Metro, after being fed up with being ignored by her husband Venson Masuku, the seemingly s*xually frustrated Langelihle Moyo couldn’t hold back her emotions when she repeatedly squeezed his testicles until he reportedly collapsed as he screamed for help.

Narrating his ordeal at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he sought a restraining order against his wife, Masuku said 30 August 2017, would forever be remembered as the day he narrowly missed the claws of death. He said his wife had a tug-of-war game with his jewels after he refused to have s*x with her.

This was after he received a prophecy from church that he should refrain from s*x while fasting for their sick child.

“I am seeking a protection order against my wife because she is abusive. She is always assaulting me, the latest incident being on 30 August when she pulled my private parts at the same time shouting at me with vulgar language.
This was after I had refused to have s*x with her since I was fasting.
“Your Worship, I refused to entertain her s*x demands after I received a prophecy from church that I should refrain from s*x for some days since our child was not feeling well. In a fit of anger she then repeatedly pulled my testicles saying she wanted to have s*x with me,”Masuku said amid sobs.

Masuku who was nearly rendered impotent begged the court to protect him from his abusive wife by granting an order that barred her from harassing him.

Defending herself Moyo said her husband was the one who triggered the fight by forcibly grabbing her on the neck.
“Some of the accusations he levelled against me are not true. What happened on the day in question is that he forcibly grabbed me by my neck before I pushed him away and in the process I ended up grabbing his private parts so that he could set me free,” said Moyo.

After the couple’s submissions, the presiding magistrate Sheunesu Matova in his ruling ordered Moyo not to physically harass her husband or to conduct herself in a violent manner towards him.

L-R: Arthur, Aisevbo and Sarah Okolomi

A 47-year-old witch doctor, Akugbe Aisevbo, has been arrested and paraded by Edo State Police Command for allegedly aiding and abetting human trafficking, according to PM News.

The man is accused of preparing charms to aid illegal migratiom to foreign countries, for the victims to avoid mishap on their ways and be successful abroad.

Aisevbo was among 55 suspects arrested and paraded by the State Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, before journalists in Benin-City for various crimes ranging from armed robbery, murder, cultism, human trafficking and kidnapping.

One of the suspects, Mrs. Rhoda Okolomi, while explaining how she was involved in the saga said two teenage girls expressed their desires to travel abroad for greener pasture.

Okolomi said she took the girls to one Arthur Ogbevoen, a suspected trafficker, who in turn, took the girls to the witch doctor to prepare charm for them to avert bad luck.

“As for the two girls, it was Arthur Ogbevoen who brought them for me to assist them. He said they were traveling to Burkina Faso. When he brought them, I told him that one of them has problem and that she should not be allowed to embark on the journey but Arthur insisted I work on both of them.
“So, I bathed both and gave them concoction to drink. One thing I always do is that before I give any of my clients concoction to drink, I make sure I give it to my children to partake from it first. One of the medicines I also put in her body is that if any man that has ailment wants to make love with her, his manhood will not get erected. I also gave her charms against accident,” Aisevbo said.

He, however, denied shaving her pubic hair and did not sleep with her. On his part, Ogbevoen who admitted that he took the girls to the witch doctor, confessed that the trafficked persons were to paid him 400,000 cfa each. One of the traffic victims, simply identified as Sarah, was also paraded to journalists.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Aisha Alhassan has apologised over her comments regarding her political allegiance ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.

She tendered the apology during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, according to a report by The Independent.
The minister had a meeting with the Party’s national Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun behind closed doors. She later left the secretariat at exactly 4pm in a brown jeep, marked Kaduna DKA 536 AA.

Alhassan had recently pledged her loyalty to former vice president Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2019 general elections in an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC.

The party had been slow in weighing in on the matter especially as the Buhari-led presidency had not really taken a position on whether to punish the minister or not.

ARMY VS IPOB: MASSOB LEADER UWAZURUIKE BLASTS NNAMDI KANU

Ralph Uwazuruike
Mr. Uwazurike expressed the view in Owerri on Thursday and added that the activities of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, could only lead to an unplanned war which was against the Biafra struggle.

He said the interest of the Biafra movement was to secure the interest, lives and property of Igbo people and not to start another war.

Mr. Uwazurike said Mr. Kanu’s major interest was to destroy the agenda of MASSOB.

He said that the hallmark of any freedom fighter was to submit to being arrested.

“A real freedom fighter submits to arrest but Kanu has told his members to burn down the country if he is re-arrested, a true indication that he was paid to destabilise MASSOB,” he said.

Mr. Uwazurike accused the federal government of popularising Mr. Kanu, adding that “if the government had ignored Mr. Kanu, the situation would not have escalated.’’

He attributed Mr. Kanu’s popularity to the relevance given to him by the federal government and called on all Igbo leaders to condemn the activities of IPOB as it had no agenda.

“The IPOB has no agenda and I advise Igbo leaders to condemn its activities. Nnamdi Kanu has no agenda and he is only thriving on the relevance given to him by the government.

“I recruited him and I know his capacities and he is not a leader. I have 25 steps towards actualising Biafra and Kanu does not have even one agenda,” he said.

Mr. Uwazurike condemned attacks on northerners over the ongoing military manoeuvre, code- named, Operation Python Dance, in the South-east.

According to him, any attacks on northerners will be counter-productive as many Igbos are resident in the north.

The leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Ralph Uwazurike, has said the activities of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), negate the rule of engagement of the Biafra struggle.

According to The Sun UK, Dr Robyn Jane Williams, a learning support worker, is accused of appearing in smutty films and magazines while working for a top college.

She was hauled before a fitness to practice hearing in Ewloe, North Wales, to answer three counts of unacceptable professional conduct yesterday.

But she failed to turn up and the tribunal was adjourned indefinitely.

In a blog post written before the hearing, Dr Williams, said: “Some time ago, I had to leave my previous job when a man outed me as a porn model to my employer.
“I had never connected my two separate roles. I worked with adults and not children.
“I had little choice, either I faced disciplinary action or left.”
Dr Williams said she was “not complaining”, and the move meant she was able to live out her dream of running an event catering business.

“Grŵp Llandrillo Menai suspended the employee as soon as the allegations came to light and the matter was consequently reported to the EWC.
“We are fully supporting the EWC in their investigation.”

DOCTORS ADVOCATE FOR A BAN OF ALL TOBACCO ADVERTS IN NIGERIA

Worried by the negative effects of smoking on the heath of Nigerians, doctors, under the umbrella of Epidemiological Society of Nigeria (EPISON) have called for an absolute ban on tobacco adverts and sponsorship of sports.

In a communiqué issued at the end its 6th annual scientific conference and general meeting held recently in Abuja, EPISON observed that high rate of tobacco use, alcohol consumption, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, especially among the youths, is worsening the landscape for non-communicable diseases.

The conference also called for proper funding and strengthening of the National Biosafety Management Agency to enable it monitor all activities related to the GMO technology in Nigeria, to forestall unintended adverse consequences.

The communiqué, which was signed by both the chairman and secretary of the society, Prof. A.I Zoakah and Dr. Matthew Ashikeni respectively, urges government to adequately fund research to address the health challenges in the epidemiological transition.

The society also charged the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, increase budgetary allocation to the health sector to meet the 15% Abuja Declaration of 2001 and ensure timely and complete release of budgeted funds.

“We urge all tiers of government to strengthen the surveillance system through provision of infrastructure and continuous training of the manpower who work in the surveillance system.

IPOB VS NIGERIA ARMY: APC RELEASES OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON ABIA STATE VIOLENCE

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday, the ruling party has called for calm over recent clashes by IPOB and Nigerian military in Abia State.
APC urged members of IPOB, Nigerian soldiers, journalists and other involved to exercise restraint as each party “owe the peace and unity of our dear country to the present and unborn generations.

While emphasising the need to avoid internal wars, the party enjoined aggrieved citizens to ensure their agitations are peaceful and lawful.

“We must not yield to elements beating the drumbeats of war. We must speak and stand up for peaceful coexistence on our social media platforms, places of worship and all other public spaces we belong.

“The party reiterates its belief that it is in our collective interest to support and remain steadfast to the cause of a united Nigeria.”

“The Party also regrets the incident at the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Umuahia, Abia State capital, where some journalists were assaulted. Commendably, the Nigerian Army has tendered its apology and is investigating the matter.
“While the party insists that security agencies must adhere with globally-stipulated rules of engagements and laws governing their operations, we must allow our security agencies to conduct their constitutional roles of securing lives and property without hindrance and provocation.

“We also call on citizens, social commentators, media influencers and other stakeholders to be careful and mindful of their utterances on the clashes. Stoking tensions by inciting utterances, hate speech and all other forms of awful propaganda will only push the country to the precipice,’’ the statement read in part.

OVER 500 PEOPLE DIE IN CONGO CHOLERA EPIDERMIC

The World Health Organisation on Tuesday said more than 500 people have so far died in cholera epidemic sweeping the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The world body said in a statement that outbreaks of the water-borne disease occur regularly in Congo, mainly due to poor sanitation and the lack of access to clean drinking water.

It stated that this year’s epidemic, which hit at least 10 urban areas including Kinshasa, was particularly disturbing as about 1.4 million people were displaced by violence in the central Kasai region.

The WHO said at least 528 people had died and the epidemic had spread to 20 of Congo’s 26 provinces.

It noted that “the risk of spread remains very high toward the Grand Kasai region, where degraded sanitary and security conditions further increase vulnerability in the face of the epidemic.
“So far, health officials have recorded more than 24,000 suspected cases of the disease across the vast nation this year, averaging more than 1,500 new cases per week since the end of July.”
It added that WHO sent a team of experts, including epidemiologists and public health specialists to Congo this month to contain the spread of the disease.

ASUU AGREES WITH FG TO SUSPEND STRIKE (SEE FULL DETAILS)

FOLLOWING THE MEETING BETWEEN ASUU AND THE FG, THE UNION MIGHT CALL OFF IT'S INDUSTRIAL ACTION WITHIN 7 DAYS

ABUJA-INDICATIONS  of imminent end to the ongoing strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, emerged early today, as the union has accepted some proposals put forward by the Federal Government in line with some of its demands.

The government bowed to some of the union’s demands with appealing proposals which the union seemed satisfied with during a negotiation meeting between it and the ASUU, Friday, in Abuja.

The meeting which started at 2:30pm on Thursday, ended about 2:15 Friday morning, after discussion on several issues on ASUU demands. Government, after the marathon meeting between its representatives, led by ministers of education, Adamu Adamu and Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige and ASSU, led by its president, Biodun Ogunyemi, conceded to some demands made by the union.

But the proposals, according to ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, will be taken to the National Executive Committee meeting of the union for consideration and subsequently return to government on the next step that would be taken.

ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, who spoke after the Minister of Labour and Employment, addressed the media at the end of the meeting, admitted that the proposals made by government were concrete but said ASUU representatives at the meeting would take the offers made to members for consideration.

The deliberation and subsequent consideration of the proposals , he said, would be carried out within a week and the position of members taken to the government within seven days. Ogunyemi, who described the new government proposals as “concrete proposals”, at the joint press briefing the ASUU leadership held with the Government delegation, insisted that the proposals would be submitted to the NEC of his organization for consideration after which he said they would get back to the government on next line of action.

One major concession from government was to honour the 2009 agreement government had with ASUU, by releasing the sum of N220 billion not later than October 2017, to fund the revitalization of federal universities across the country.

NIGERIA TO BEGIN TRACKING OF PIRACY OF MEDIA CONTENTS

The Aggregation Business Model and Tracking Framework will assist artistes to checkmate the pirating of their art works, newsmen report. Mr Rahman Raji, the Managing Director of Media Distribution Network (MDN) , the company that developed the framework said this on Wednesday when he spoke to pressmen in Lagos.

Raji said that MDN developed the framework to assist artistes in tracking their pirated works, identify the pirates for sanctions and ensure that artistes receive commensurate royalties from their sweats.

“The framework will assist artistes in their fight against piracy; protect their works of art, encourage accountability, and transparency through the efficient distribution of royalties. “It is also aimed at putting in place an accountable system for the identification and distribution of Nigerian creative contents globally.
“The device will also boost financial liquidity of artistes by promoting the sales and distribution of their creative contents,” he said.

Raji said that MDN through its device would obtain rights of multiple content providers from their associations to help them distribute their contents through various legal channels.

He said that the company had put in place steps to partner various reputable organizations whose platforms are being used to distribute media contents. He said that the framework would also guarantee high turn-over on investments to the content provider and enhance extensive analysis that would facilitate smart decision.

Also, Mr Ademola Odetunde, the organisation’s legal consultant said that MDN was out to build lasting and impactful structures toward the development of the entertainment industry in the country through its framework.

“This structure will address piracy, lack of accurate data and the inability to code and track owners of creative content.
“It will also provide a business structure that will drive the distribution of musical and movie tapes aimed at improving returns on investment for the government,” he said.

Odetunde urged the Federal Government and stakeholders in the entertainment industry to support MDN so that the gains of the industry could be sustained in the face of disruptive technology.

APPLE TO LAUNCH IPHONE 8 IN SEPTEMBER (SEE DETAILS)

Apple will hold a press event on September 12 to unveil its much anticipated new iPhones, which are expected to introduce a whole new design and set the tone for the next few years.

According to The Guardian, unlike previous years, much is known about at least one of the new iPhones thanks to a large software leak from Apple that revealed several of its key details.

But new smartphones are not the only new thing Apple is expected to announce, with the event taking place in the just-built Apple Park and its Steve Jobs Theatre.

Apple Park: Known externally as Apple’s “spaceship”, Apple Park is the firm’s new headquarters in Cupertino, California, built to house its growing workforce in a giant, four-storey ring surrounded by manicured woodland. The multi-billion-dollar construction was designed by Norman Foster with Apple’s Jony Ive and is meant to be part of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ legacy.

The event will be the first time non-Apple personnel will be allowed on the grounds in any number, giving the world a glimpse of the latest hallowed halls of big US technology.

‘D22’ iPhone- iPhone 8/Pro/X:  Apple is expected to announce a new design for at least one of its iPhones for 2017. While the details on the naming of the device codenamed “D22” are sketchy – it could be called the iPhone 8, iPhone Pro, or perhaps the iPhone X if it is named after the Apple smartphone’s 10th anniversary – a leak from Apple of the HomePod software revealed much about its design and features.

The biggest change is a new all-screen design, similar to that produced by Samsung for the Galaxy S8 and Note 8, and LG for the G6 and V30. Apple is expected to do away with the traditional home button on the front, with the screen extending to the edges at the top, bottom and sides of the device, with much slimmer bezels.

The top of the device is expected to have a cut out in the screen for the earpiece speaker, selfie camera and sensors, similar to that of Android-founder Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone.

Lacking a home button on the front of the iPhone also means no Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the front. While Apple was hoping, like Samsung, to have an under-screen fingerprint scanner, neither company appears to have been able to get the technology to work for this generation. It is unlikely the iPhone 8 will have such an advancement.

Instead, Apple is expected to rely on infrared facial recognition as its primary biometric system for the iPhone 8, which will be capable of recognising a user, unlocking the device and authenticating payments. Leaks also point to the phone being able to tell when a user is looking at it and automatically silencing notifications.

5 CLEAR SIGNS THAT YOUR GIRL IS ABOUT TO DUMP YOU FOR ANOTHER GUY

There are always warning signs before a relationship ends but most people tend to ignore those signs.
Before your partner breaks up with you they unconsciously send out warning signs because once they know the end of the relationship is near their actions are always affected and it’s good you know so they don’t take you unawares and dump you.
Here are clear signs your woman is about to dump you for another man.
1. She is hanging out with this new guy a lot
“Most times, women love to secure a new relationship before they leave and if she is about to dump you, she might probably be doing that at the moment, we all have friends from the opposite s3x and there is actually nothing wrong with that but when she suddenly starts hanging out with this particular guy almost every time she is free, chances are she’s losing interest in you and hoping to start a new relationship with this new guy and if you call or text her when she is with him and she ignores you, that could just be a huge sign”.
2. She takes forever to reply
“If she is tired of the relationship and wants out, it becomes difficult for her to pick your calls or reply messages, we are not saying she should always reply on time or pick your calls always as she might be too busy to reply sometimes but when it becomes a habit, then it’s obvious she wants out, she would be happy to pick your calls or reply your messages if she wants to be with you”.
3. She seems lost when she is with you
“If she wants out, it becomes so difficult for her to concentrate on you when you are with her, it’s like her mind is always somewhere when she is with you; when a woman wants to be with a man, he becomes her focus of attention; everything he does seems interesting to her and if she wants out, you become too boring for her”.
4. Everything becomes an issue
“When a woman wants out, everything you do annoys her and you observe it becomes so easy for her to pick up fights; there isn’t any perfect relationship and people should also understand misunderstandings are normal in every healthy relationship but there are misunderstandings in relationships that signal the end, when the misunderstandings become frequent and the reason for the misunderstanding isn’t enough for her to act that way, she might just be looking for a way to get out of the relationship and she might be looking for a way to make you get pissed off so you end it first and take the blame for the collapse of the relationship”.
5. Your friends and family stop appealing to her
“In the beginning, she always wanted to hang out with your family members and your friends too, the truth is when a woman sees a future with a man, she knows securing a place in the heart of his friends and family is important but if she suddenly stops you from seeing her parents and other important people in her life and she also avoids meeting your parents and other important people in your life, the sign is so clear she wants out”.
