YOUNG GIRL ACCUSED OF SENDING SNAKE TO SWALLOW N36m AT JAMB OFFICE SPEAKS OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME

The young girl said to have used a snake to make away with as much as N36 million from a JAMB office, has spoken out about the claims.

For the first time after she was accused of sending a snake to swallow N36m from the vault in the account office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, Benue State, 16-year-old Dor, has opened a can of worms to Daily Post. Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk in JAMB office, Makurdi shocked the world penultimate weeks ago after she claimed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” swallow N36m from the vault in her office. In her confessional statement while being interrogated by a team of auditors, she said that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneaked into the office to swallow the money from the vault. According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing from the vault.“I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on what might have happened to the money. I continued to press until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.” However, when Daily Post reached out to the erstwhile housemaid, who was relieved of her job following the shocking revelation in November 2017, she denied ever confessing to have turned to a snake or swallowing any money. Dor, a native of Angantiv in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State, recalled that her ‘madam’ truly went to Plateau State for a conference last year but she did not follow her. According to her, few days after returning home from the crusade, hosted by a popular man of God in Jos, her boss (Philomena) asked her to go that she was relocating to Abuja. “That was towards the end of 2017. I was at home when they went for the crusade. When madam came back from Jos, she asked me to go that they were relocating to Abuja and she would not go with me.“I came to her house in 2015 July and I did not at any point steal even her one kobo before I left last year. Maybe she was not referring to me, but I am sure she didn’t have any maid before and after me,” Dor, who now resides in Karu area of Nasarawa said when an insider directed us to her new residence. When this reporter stormed Philomena’s family house in High Level, Makurdi on Saturday to confirm if it was Dor, who actually turned to a snake, a man we met there said she had since relocated. “Madam Philo no dey live here again,” he said rudely. Meanwhile, when Daily Post reached Fabian O. Okoro, JAMB’s director of Information and Technology, for update Monday morning, he did not reply our text at the time of this report. ***Source: Daily Post xx

WANT TO LIVE TO YOUR 90'S? SEE HOW SOME GLASSES OF WINE OR BEER EACH NIGHT CAN HELP

Drinking a couple of glasses of wine or beer a night while adding a few extra pounds in weight could be the secret to living into your 90s, a new report has revealed.

It’s the sort of health news most would toast with a cheeky tipple – but it may have health fanatics choking on their carrot juice.

Drinking a couple of glasses of wine or beer a night – while adding a few extra pounds in weight – could be the secret to living into your 90s, a major study finds today.

The research, which looked at those who had lived beyond 90, identified modest alcohol consumption as one of five key factors linked to a long life.

It found that those who had around two glasses of beer or wine every day had an 18 per cent reduced risk of premature death compared to those who were teetotal.

Meanwhile, being slightly overweight – but not obese – also appeared to reduce the risk of early death, although only by around 3 per cent.

Professor Claudia Kawas, of the University of California, tracked data on around 1,700 people who were in their nineties in 2003 – called the ‘90+ study’.

She said her work had found that modest drinking and carrying extra pounds were both associated with longevity. She also found that those who spent at least two hours a day on a hobby had a 21 per cent lower risk of premature death, while those who took between 15 and 45 minutes of moderate exercise a day had an 11 per cent lower risk. Drinking about two cups of coffee a day gave a ten per cent lower chance.

Speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual conference in Austin, Texas, Professor Kawas said: ‘I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity.’
Previous studies have suggested that light alcohol consumption could lower the chances of a heart attack or heart disease. However, the latest advice from the UK’s Chief Medical Officer states that men and women should consume no more than 14 units a week – equivalent to six pints of beer or seven glasses of wine – and that drinking should be spread evenly over the course of seven days.

On weight, Professor Kawas explained that human biology was geared to adding weight later in life, adding: ‘The best mortality experience is to gain between five and ten pounds per decade.
‘Underweight people had a 50 per increase in mortality. It’s not bad to be skinny when you’re young but it’s very bad to be skinny when you’re old.’
The research project, which began nearly four decades ago, looked at which factors were linked to a longer life.

On coffee she said: ‘The sweet spot for caffeine was 2-400mg per day, which depending on if you’re a Starbucks fan ... is two cups of coffee probably.’
The number of people over 90 in the UK is rapidly growing – more than 571,245 people in 2016, up from around 200,000 in 1986.

But Professor Kawas said while the tips could extend life, they would not guarantee the extended years would be healthy ones.

She stressed: ‘People should try to incorporate as many of these things into their day if they wish to give themselves the best chance of living to a ripe age.
‘Our data shows none of these lifestyle factors make any difference to the likelihood you will develop dementia.’
n Stroke victims could regain their ability to speak by returning their brains to a childlike state, delegates at the Austin conference were told. Dr Takao Hensch, of Harvard University, said drugs such as valproic acid may let the brain absorb information as easily as it did under the age of seven.

Meanwhile, inventor Takao Someya from the University of Tokyo described how his new ‘electronic skin’ patch could make it easier to monitor the vital signs of babies, old people and the sick.

FEDERAL GOVT REVEALS WHY IT IS FREEING 475 BOKO HARAM SUSPECTS

Over 400 Boko Haram suspects detained by the Federal Government have regained their freedom due to lack of evidence against them.

Following the mass trial of hundreds of suspected Boko Haram extremists before a court at the Kainji military base in central Niger state, the Ministry of Justice on Sunday announced the release of 475 suspected members of Boko Haram on the ground that most of the cases against them were dropped for lack of evidence.

According to the ministry’s spokesman, Salihu Othman Isah, the release order was issued on Friday, with the 475 suspects to be returned to their home states for “proper rehabilitation” before being sent back to their families.

He disclosed that they had been arrested on grounds that they either belonged to Boko Haram, or had concealed information about the group’s plans or its members’ whereabouts.

“However, the Prosecution Counsel could not charge them with any offence due to lack of sufficient evidence against them. Therefore, the suspects were released,” Isah said.

Among those released was a young girl with a three-month-old baby from Borno State who was taken to a Boko Haram enclave by her brother and married off to his friend when she was 11. She was arrested in 2014 while trying to escape.

Equally among those freed were two mechanics and identical twins who were arrested in Bauchi State in 2010 after servicing a vehicle at their workshop which belonged to a Boko Haram member.

ANCIENT "GATE TO HELL" UNCOVERED IN TURKEY AND IT CAN KILL ANYONE WHO GETS TOO CLOSE

An ancient site dubbed the “Gate to Hell” emitted a deadly gas that killed anyone who got too close, scientists have discovered.

Boffins have been probing the ancient site in Turkey – also known as Hades’ Gate – which was believed to be a passage into the underworld by the ancient Greeks.

Myth tales claim people would drop down dead when they entered the mysterious stone grotto located beneath the temple at Hierapolis.

It was said to be filled with the deadly breath of the Greek god of death who ruled over the underworld, Hades.

But now scientists have found the tales of people dropping dead at the site could have been more than just stories.

Researchers have discovered there is evidence the site, in modern day Denizli, was once filled with concentrated deadly gas – and could still be fatal to this day.

Professor Hardy Pfanz, from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, led the study which discovered the ancient ruins still emit highly concentrated levels of carbon dioxide.

The cave sits above the Badadag fault line, meaning toxic gases would have escaped the Earth’s crust and filled the grotto.

Boffins believe it was this – not the breath of an ancient god – that would have caused the terrifying mysterious deaths at the site.

The study said: "In a grotto below the temple of Pluto, CO2 was found to be at deadly concentrations of up to 91%.
"Astonishingly, these vapuors are still emitted in concentrations that nowadays kill insects, birds and mammals.”
Ancient Greeks believed Hades was the brother of Zeus, the god of the sky, and was given the duty of looking after the dead and ruling the underworld.

Ancient geographer Strabo revealed he witnessed animals being sacrificed in the cave in a thick cloud of vapour in 17AD.

He said: "“Now to those who approach anywhere around the enclosure the air is harmless, since the outside is free from that vapor in calm weather, but any animal that passes inside meets instant death.
“Bulls that are led into it fall and are dragged out dead.”
The scientists' study was published in the journal Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences.

It added: “Our measurements confirm the presence of geogenic CO2 in concentrations that explain ancient stories of killed bulls, rams, and songbirds during religious ceremonies.
"They also strongly corroborate that at least in the case of Hierapolis, ancient writers like Strabo or Plinius described a mystic phenomenon very exactly without much exaggeration."
